Formation of the Republic of Georgia Chapter of the Society for Economic Botany was conceived through discussions between SEB President Rainer Bussmann and Dr. Shalva (Nukri) Sikharulidze, and opened on June 21, 2012.

Georgia’s flora contains more than 4000 species of vascular plants (ferns, gymno- and angiosperms); over 25% is either Georgian or Caucasian endemics. Many plants including rare species are medicinal or ornamental.
